CARACAS — Claudia Macero, communications director for María Corina Machado’s party Vente Venezuela, confirmed this week that Machado remains willing to sit down with Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to discuss accelerating the country’s democratic transition.
Macero said it is not the first time Machado has expressed this openness: “No es la primera vez que María Corina ha dicho que está dispuesta a sentarse de cara a la gente con una agenda clarísima” — “It’s not the first time María Corina has said she is willing to sit down publicly with a very clear agenda.”
Macero, who returned to Caracas last week after spending more than a year in exile from the country, was careful to frame any such meeting as conditional, not unconditional engagement with the Maduro government.
