What is Sociedad Media?

Sociedad Media is an independently-owned digital news outlet and Miami’s No. 1 Source for News, Entertainment & Culture from Latin America, U.S. Politics & Global News.

Started in 2025 by our Executive Editor, Dionys Duroc, following a visit to Havana, Cuba, Sociedad Media has become Miami’s newest and fastest-growing English-language digital news publication focused on covering the top stories across Latin America and providing the Miami community original reporting, breaking news coverage, and in-depth analysis of Latin America and the Caribbean.

By leveraging our relationships in the region and tapping into the experiences from our on-the-ground journalists and regional news reporters, our readers will have access to an unmatched view into developing events across the region and insight into some of the most consequential topics in Latin America.

Based in Miami, Florida, which is home to one of the largest communities of the Hispanic diaspora in North America, and a hub for trade and commercial enterprise, where U.S. & Latin American interests converge, Sociedad Media is uniquely positioned to help facilitate a valuable news corridor connecting Latin America and the Hispanic communities of the United States.

Our Story

Sociedad Media was founded by Dionys Duroc, a Miami-based freelance journalist & writer who spent years living and traveling across South and Central America—including Havana, Cuba—before returning to South Florida with a clear vision: to deliver dynamic news coverage on the latest events from Latin America to one of the largest and most underserved Hispanic diasporas in the United States.

“For half a century, Latin America has taken a back seat to global politics. For decades, it has been neglected and ignored,” Duroc said. “But in recent months things have changed and their are major developments happening that will give this region a greater role to play in the years to come, and I want Sociedad Media to be a part of that, and share that with our audience who deserves not to be left out.”

Sociedad Media went live in December 2025 and has grown rapidly, covering the most consequential news stories in the the most excitingly dynamic regions in the world—from Washington’s new narco war, the fall of Nicolás Maduro, the ongoing Cuba crisis, Brazil’s political battle over South America’s largest democracy, and the internal security crisis reshaping Ecuador, cartel wars in Mexico, and the region’s dramatic shift to the political right.

We are a startup. We are growing. And we are just getting started.
