The Audio Scandal Consuming Baja California’s Governor — and Mexico

BAJA CALIFORNIA — Four leaked audio recordings have plunged Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda into crisis, suggesting she offered to cooperate with the FBI to avoid criminal charges and extradition after the U.S. revoked her visa in 2025.

Ávila insists the talks were only about her travel documents and accuses predecessor Jaime Bonilla of orchestrating the leaks as a trap.
