PARIS — Argentine President Javier Milei traveled to Paris this week, arriving on Wednesday, for a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace — their fifth meeting since Milei took office. The visit coincided with “Argentina Week,” an international business conference running September 30 through October 2 in Paris, designed to pitch Argentine investment opportunities to European and French executives.

Unlike some past meetings between the two leaders, which have touched on geopolitical tensions, this encounter was described as focused strictly on economic matters.

Milei is pushing for French investment specifically in mining, energy, nuclear cooperation, critical minerals used in telecommunications, and lithium extraction — including a reference to Eramet’s lithium operations in Salta province.

Following the private meeting, Macron hosted a reception for the visiting Argentine delegation.

Milei framed the pitch around job creation and economic growth, telling French business leaders that their investment profits would translate into employment and prosperity for Argentines.

The trip is part of a broader push by Milei’s government to attract foreign capital as it continues implementing its economic reform program.

The Paris meeting marks a continuation of the Milei-Macron relationship, now in its fifth round, with this round notably steering away from past friction points to concentrate on securing French capital for Argentina’s resource and energy sectors.
